Old News (2006)

28 December 2006

A rusty old splash page and three new comic books before the end of the year; The ACME Novelty Library 17, Ex Machina: March to War and Y: The Last Man: Kimono Dragons. 219/162/426.

27 November 2006

One new DVD set and two new comic books; Battlestar Galactica: Season Two, Girls: Survival and Planetary #26. 216/162/426.

25 October 2006

Three new comic books; Gen13 Bootleg: Grunge: The Movie, Kabuki Vol. 7 No. 7 and The Walking Dead, Volume 5: The Best Defense. 213/162/426.

Also, I recently finished work on the website of my university's magazine, The Courier. I even learnt some PHP, so that I could make the tabs update their status without having to use upteen different include files. Hoo-hah.

1 October 2006

I've been at university a week now and all is well so far.

Two new items, DVDs rather than comic books; Battlestar Galactica: Mini Series and Battlestar Galactica: Season One.

Before I left London, I scanned in the last of the comic book covers, so now there are 372 huge covers online (162 of which need rotatey-fixing) and a further 426 that aren't online yet but shall be once I trim them down and rotate them straight. Just over another year and a half and I should be all done...

New splash page soon.

2 September 2006

Today I completed and uploaded version 8.1 of this website. I've moved the navigation and search bar from the left of the screen to the top, so that comic book data pages no longer end up foolishly narrow in smaller windows. There is also a far greater emphasis on the search feature, since that is mainly how I navigate the library these days.

The navigation options now reflect where in the site's structure you are, via the use of differently coloured tabs. They are a little hard-edged right now, so I may look at softening their appearance later on.

The news pages have been divided up into years, rather than merely "old" and "new"; scroll to the bottom of this page to see what I mean. I've also removed the old random-cover splash page, opting instead to make this news page the first thing you see of the library. I may re-introduce a proper splash page later on, but it would include a search box so as to be useful in and of itself.

Finally, in actual comic book news, I've nearly finished reading Seraphic Feather and have enjoyed it greatly so far. Unfortunately, due to the death of Super Manga Blast! earlier this year, it seems unlikely that I'll be able to read any more. The same is also true of 3x3 Eyes and this saddens me.

At least the scanning of comic book covers has seen a resurgence, with there currently remaining only 224 to be scanned. Unfortunately, of the 572 that are scanned, 364 still require post processing in Photoshop; straightening and cropping galore.

That is all for now.

15 August 2006

Rhino Toe.

This front page is kind of like a blog, only with no past entries... So, I leave up information regarding Adam Warren's "sexy superhero comedy," Empowered, adding a press release from Dark Horse. Also, a little nugget about his new Iron Man: Hyper Velocity project.

I didn't get my toenail ripped out in the end on account of the doctor said I only needed to if I wanted to; it's not fungussed up as I thought, merely has a mashed up root. So, I leave it be, my own little rhino toe.

15 August 2006

One new comic book; Seraphic Feather Vol. I: Crimson Angel. 370(208/162)/426(71/355).

24 July 2006

Empowered.

Details have finally been released regarding Adam Warren's "sexy superhero comedy," Empowered and dang, it looks fun. This, along with the Iron Man: Hyper Velocity project means a whole lot more good stories to read by one of my favourite wartists.

I get my left big toenail ripped out on Tuesday which will be fun; it has looked like a rhino horn for the last five years and now it will be just a squishy toenail-shaped void.

24 July 2006

Bought one new comic book, Flight Volume Three. 369(207/162)/426(71/355).

7 July 2006

Three new comic books; Seraphic Feather Vol. II: Seeds of Chaos, Seraphic Feather Vol. V: War Crimes and Seraphic Feather Vol. VI: Collision Course. 368(206/162)/426(71/355).

Version 8 is Scalable!

Just launched Version 8 of this here comic book library; it's all scalable and whatnot. Go on, give it a whirl. Make the text smaller? The images get smaller! Make the text bigger? The images get bigger! And everything else too (spacing, padding, margins, etc.). It's especially good on the comic book data pages themselves, where the covers are so itty bitty to start with...

Isn't that spunktacular? Of course it is. This site's so damn near future-proof now, it doesn't know what's hit it. Let me know what you think of the new design.

My hand is on fire with the pain of the typing... I really do go to the doctor tomorrow.

Only twelve more weeks of work, then off to university... Actually, two weeks of work, one week of holiday, nine weeks of work, one week of packing, then university... It scares me.

I just remembered, I got a new computer! It is a MacBook and I bought it on 19th May. Hoo-hah.

17 June 2006

Fifteen new comic books; The Dirty Pair: Fatal But Not Serious, Ghost Stories, Girls: Emergence, Seraphic Feather Vol. III: Target Zone, Seraphic Feather Vol. IV: Dark Angel, 3x3 Eyes Vol. II: Curse of the Gesu, 3x3 Eyes Vol. III: Flight of the Demon, 3x3 Eyes Vol. IV: Blood of the Sacred Demon, 3x3 Eyes Vol. V: Summoning of the Beast, 3x3 Eyes Vol. VI: Key to the Sacred Land, 3x3 Eyes Vol. VII: The Shadow of Kunlun, 3x3 Eyes Vol. VIII: Descent of the Mystic City, Y: The Last Man: One Small Step, Y: The Last Man: Paper Dolls and Zero Girl: Full Circle. 365(203/162)/426(71/355).

8 May 2006

Three new comic books; F-Stop: A Love Story in Pictures, 100 Bullets: Strychnine Lives and Slop: Analecta. 350(179/171)/426(26/400).

29 April 2006

Over half of the books I sold as floppies, I have now replaced as collections; 100 Bullets: Hang Up On The Hang Low, 100 Bullets: A Foregone Tomorrow, 100 Bullets: The Counterfifth Detective, Planetary: Leaving The 20th Century, Planetary: Crossing Worlds, Transmetropolitan: Gouge Away, Transmetropolitan: Spider's Thrash, Transmetropolitan: The Cure and Y: The Last Man: Cycles. Six books left to come, due the end of May. Also, got a new book, Strange Girl: Girl Afraid, which I like. Also also, scanned in nice huge versions of the rest of the Transmet covers. 347(167/180)/426.

15 April 2006

Went and bought three new comic books; Ex Machina: Fact v. Fiction, Iron Man: Extremis No. 6 and Planetary #25. 331(151/180)/432.

14 April 2006

All Sold Out.

Reckon I sold every dang comic book I put on eBay, which was nice. Means I can now re-buy them all as collected editions and even buy new books with the left-over monies. Yippee.

I work on redesign of this place, vaguely, though mostly in code, not appearance. Also, I keep random huge front cover until I think up better splash page... And probably beyond then too. You click the big cover? It takes you to comic info page! Wow!

14 April 2006

I've sold all of the comic books I wanted to for the moment, so now I can go and buy them in collected form. For my records, those 98 comics were; 100 Bullets 15-36, Planetary 7-18, plus the Authority, JLA and Batman crossovers, Preacher 59-66, Transmetropolitan 25-60 and Y: The Last Man 1-17. 328(148/180)/432.

31 March 2006

Of the 98 comics I listed on eBay a few weeks ago, I sold 46. So, I re-list the 52 that didn't sell, this time a whole load cheaper than before. You go buy now?

11 March 2006

I've put 98 comics for sale on eBay and, on account of they're signed by Warren Ellis, I scanned in the covers for Transmetropolitan 25-42. 400(166/234)/458.

9 March 2006

eBay Comics until 19th March 2006!

For over a year now, I've been meaning to eBay some comic books of mine, that I might buy them in graphic novel form instead of keeping the floppies...

It is done! There are issues of 100 Bullets, Planetary, Preacher, Transmetropolitan and Y: The Last Man for sale, including many issues signed by Warren Ellis himself.

Go! Buy!

4 March 2006

Two new comic books, Kabuki Vol. 7 No. 6 and, on account of it was only 50p, Wildsiderz #1. 382(148/234)/476. I've also recoded this entire website so that it uses style sheets for layout and padding as much as possible. No more perilously deep nested tables for me, no sir! Also also, I've been offered a place at university, to study Computer Science. I start in September. Hoo-hah? I reckon so. Just 28 more weeks of work to go...

26 February 2006

A shiny new book that I thought might be good and was happily proved correct; Girls: Conception. 380(146/234)/476.

27 January 2006

One comic that is very near its end; Planetary #24, and another that I wasn't expecting for another month; Serenity: Those Left Behind. 379(145/234)/476.

20 January 2006

Buying comics just because you want the covers is okay, so long as they only cost 80p each. Gen13: Magical Drama Queen Roxy #1 and Gen13: Magical Drama Queen Roxy #2. As is buying a really quite crappy comic just so as you can complete a twenty-part crossover from ten years ago. Wetworks #16. So long as it's only 80p, mind. 377(138/239)/476.

14 January 2006

The first three comic books of this new year were bought yesterday; The ACME Novelty Library 16, Iron Man: Extremis No. 5 and Out There: The Evil Within. The ACME Novelty Library and Out There title pages were dutifully created and I even finished my UCAS application today, with 15th January being the deadline. Hoo-hah. 376(135/241)/476.
