Old News (2003)

28 September 2003

Two new comics are mine; Nightmares & Fairy Tales, Issue #6 and Loop. Loop title page made, other things being worked on, so I write not much now.

20 September 2003

I have moved house. This means I have tenuous internet access. Anyway, until I eventually get around to doing something worthwhile with this place, the comic bookery continues. I bought these books the other day; 100 Bullets: Six Feet Under The Gun. Wildcats: Vicious Circles, Wildcats: Serial Boxes and Wildcats: Battery Park.

6 September 2003

In the recent past I have bought a whole bunch of comics. First of all, Dirty Pair No.s 1, 2, 3 and 4, Dirty Pair II No.s 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, The Dirty Pair III No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, and, finally, The Dirty Pair: Sim Hell #1, #2, #3 and #4. Yes, I already own those stories, in both graphic novel and reprinted form. But I wanted the orginal comics. And now I have them. Hoo-hah.

Then I went and bought some more up to date comics. Planetary #16 is finally out, two years after #15, and apparently monthly from now on. Both Red 2 and Y: The Last Man 14 continue their respective series' traditions of being far better than they have any right to be. And, in a surprise read, Wildcats Version 3.0: Brand Building has rocked my socks off.

2 August 2003

Yesterday, before my hospital appointment today, I bought Bunny Town no. 2, Global Frequency 10, Lenore #10 and Red 1. Also, my lady friend was kind enough to give me Lenore #9, meaning all this makes sense. Bunny Town and Red pages appear, and I sit gingerly for a few days.

27 July 2003

My lady friend bought me Global Frequency 9 and Y: The Last Man 13 a little while ago. I write pages now.

5 July 2003

At long, long last, Planetary / Batman: Night On Earth is published. And pretty fine it is too, though not much to read. Also, I recently received Old Master Q 61 from my lady friend, read a whole load more Old Master Q as well.

29 June 2003

Y: The Last Man 12 and Hansel & Gretel have found their way into my grubby little hands, and as a matter of course, the Hansel & Gretel title page has sprouted forth. 630 individual comic books, trade paperbacks and original graphic novels, spanning 145 different titles? That's a whole bunch right there.

King Nodnol.

And now I've finished The Invisibles. Haven't read the first three books since May 2002 though, so must re-read all again. Until I do, I loved the first six books, was left a bit cold by the seventh. Need to re-read.

Need a desk, stocked to the gills with art supplies, screens in my face, keyboards beneath my fingers, a huge desk, with a huge chair, in front of a huge window, looking down on London. A chance to write and draw. At the moment, I have no place to work on things I want to work on. And so I don't work on anything.

I also want a white badge, two dies, a bald head. The trappings amuse me enough for now.

Not going to use Movable Type for the new thing after all. Not flexible enough. Words and pictures and sounds.

Someone said I should try and get some of the stuff I've written published. There are people who will. I just need to find and whore; print and send.

The Megasad Collection, coming soon to a book store near you.

Caleb wants a fish desk.

15 June 2003

Because I can, I recently bought; Global Frequency 8, The Invisibles: Counting to None, The Invisibles: Kissing Mister Quimper, The Invisibles: The Invisible Kingdom, Nightmares & Fairy Tales, Issue #5, Popbot book four, Y: The Last Man 11 and Zeet. Also, a friend gave me The Sandman: The Dream Hunters in return for me letting her read all my comic books. The appropriate new title pages; The Sandman and Zeet.

Sony Ericsson T100.

Now that I have a full time job, I can actually buy comic books whenever I feel the urge. Which is nice. So, I've been catching up on 100 Bullets and The Invisibles. Or at least I shall, once I've read The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart. Not going to university means I need to read, else my mind shall stagnate. Hell, I may even finally get around to reading some Philosophy...

Over the summer, all that has been produced up to date shall be prepared for offline viewing (index.html vs. /, no SSI etc.) and then distilled into an ISO. I'll offer it for download, maybe even sell in special 8cm CD form with liner notes and such, but leave alone thereafter. Need to do new stuff.

In the interim, before finishing archive and making new, I use this as anouncement page. Nothing to stop me using something else, but this is how it started, just over five years ago; comic books plus gibberings.

After two months of my phone being dead, I have bought a new one. I bought it because it was small, light and purty. I know nought more of it, as it charges for another eight hours before I can use it (the guy in the shop said 16 hours, and who am I to argue with a guy in a shop?).

My bladder is about to explode and I must wash my teeth. I sleep now.

Caleb spends money.

25 May 2003

Money from job let me buy The Invisibles: Bloody Hell in America and 100 Bullets: Split Second Chance.

Revelation.

I have just finished reading Brooklyn Dreams, something I started reading in March 2001. And the same feeling that I got when reading The Invisibles in July 2001, when I first kissed a girl in November 2000, Donnie Darko in late 2002... Revelation, love, sadness. All of it came back. The things that Carl Santini feels at the end, I felt for myself over two years ago. But, rather than being the start of something wonderful, it was the end for me. I knew it then, wrote it then.

I guess it's about time I explained the splash page, the one I've had since February. I'd recently gone to Moorfield's Eye Hospital, a check-up for my eyes (they have deteriorated noticeably since I was diagnosed with RP in October 1999). 12.2 was the number on the door opposite the seat on which I waited, to see a doctor. A boy, seven or eight years old, read it aloud, "twelve dot two." After I saw the doctor, I met someone who was blind. She gave me her card; the top right corner was cut away, so that she'd know which way to hold it. The metal is a shower. The rest, a rip.

The feelings have left me, I'm back in the cold.

All of this will come to an end this summer; megasad, all in sleep.

Nothing so grand as a new beginning. Just time to let go. But, first, finish things properly. All code perfect, no loose ends. Write to CD, offer ISO, then delete. My life in 35MB.

Caleb has a job.

19 May 2003

I have new comic books; Brooklyn Dreams (finally got whole story after first reading Volume 2 in March 2001), Global Frequency 7, Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth, Mr. Tickle (actually got for Christmas), 100 Bullets: First Shot, Last Call, 100 Bullets 22, 100 Bullets 23, 100 Bullets 24 and Y: The Last Man 10. These pages exist now too; Jimmy Corrigan and Mr. Men.

5 April 2003

The comic books, like the updates, are getting few and far between. Global Frequency 6 and Y: The Last Man 9 are all there is.

9 March 2003

Added me some funny books to this here comic book rotisserie; Global Frequency 5 and Y: The Last Man 8.

31 January 2003

Global Frequency 4 and Nightmares & Fairy Tales, Issue #4 bought for me, by my wonderful Mysterious Donor.

F.U.B.A.R.2.

The new year has started and I've quit university. Hallelujah, praise the Bob. I'm not the studious type, haven't been for at least six years. Now I get to exist in the real world. Bollocks.

I Feel Sick is something Jhonen Vasquez produced a little while ago, something I have only just read. Been exposed to a lot of his work lately, having watched the first 28 episodes of Invader Zim within the last few days. He writes crazy shit. I like it lots, with the random acts of violence and extreme cuteness... I'm getting the two muddled in my head, but only slightly. And the Spooky toy, that is being held aloft by Tenna on the left, is indeed spooky in real life. Beware its spookiness.

I have yet to start seriously looking for a job. This is not good, as all my savings will be gone by the end of February. In fact, I would go so far as to say this is bad. But I am also lazy. Ho-hum.

For those of you who want more than just the comic books, I've uploaded yet more stuff to the archive. Only three more old sites to go, and whilst you're waiting for those, go find out about the film society of my old university.

Caleb still needs to get a job.

30 January 2003

I bought I Feel Sick #1 and I Feel Sick #2 and Y: The Last Man 7 very recently, instead of sorting out money business. Then, in a spurt of originality, I made the I Feel Sick page.

19 January 2003

New comics bought recently; From Hell, Global Frequency 3, Mek number three and Y: The Last Man 6. From Hell page made also.

The new header graphic features myself, in hamster form, courtesy of a Mysterious Donor. In this slight iteration of the site (7.02 to 7.03) I have also made yet more structural changes, imperceptible to the human eye, but happy-making for myself.

The Authority: Kev is a very funny book from Garth Ennis (the writer of Preacher), in which he rips the shit out of the entire concept of The Authority. A pathetic, ex-SAS soldier, is sent to kill said team, and succeeds, only to learn that his superiors were in fact slimy, green aliens, using him to get rid of the only obstacle in the way of their planned Invasion of The Earth. A pink bar of soap plays a vital role, and the captions that set up new scenes are the best this series has had so far; "The Carrier: Flubbity-wub-wub, flubbity-wub-wub-flub-wub."

Now that I am, in theory, a working man, I don't know whether or not I'll have enough disposable income to spend on the comic books. I guess I'll know more once I start earning actual money...

For those of you who want more than just the comic books, keep an eye on megasad.com/archive over the next few weeks. Lots of old shit going to be uploaded, might we worth laughing at. T'Zuka too, for some real live New Stuff.

Caleb should get a job.

9 January 2003

Yay with the actual uploading of stuff I did weeks ago. Things have been moved around, a new header graphic and front page 'essay' are on the way, and all of this rushing around on my part is due to my foolishness with deleting iBook Swan from my server, so needing to finish the new version pronto.
