Conclusion
That is how iBook Swan was made. Here are some screenshots, demonstrating many of the techniques mentioned:
Use these tips to make your own Mac look and feel how you want it to.
And now for some closing advice:
Drag applications you use regularly to the Dock. Drag away those you do not.
Move Menubar Extras around by holding down Command and dragging them to and fro.
To change the icon of an item, Get its Info (Command-I), select the icon, and paste from a pre-copied source. Said source can be the icon of another item, an icon proper or even a picture produced in a graphics application.
Have View Options for All windows that Keep things arranged by Name, to avoid the mess that is the new 'Snap to grid' in 10.2. Except on the desktop, which should be organised chaos when you're working on a project, covered with many versions of many pictures and documents, and only tidied up after you've finished.
Run MacJanitor when you remember to.
Get external speakers for listening to MP3s. The iBook's internal ones are too tinny.
Try not to drop your iBook on its head too often.
