Ruding was founded in the autumn term of 1996 because of school expansion.  Previously there had only been four houses, their members spread between forms.  The new system meant that everyone in each form belonged to one house.  This, it was hoped, would bring greater solidarity to the houses.  So Stratton, Barton, Denton and Newton were rearranged, whilst Ruding, named after the Prebendary of Buckingham (1471-1481), and Verney were created.

The first housemaster of Ruding was Mr Burns, a maths teacher, who has now left the school.  He got Ruding into third place by the end of the first year, but due to a slightly worse performance than we had hoped for on sports day, we ended up in fourth place (I think).  Then, when Mr Burns left after two years working at the school, a new housemaster had to be found.  Dr Falconer was chosen.
